Are you a Stranger?

The Prophet ﷺ says: “Islam began as something strange, and will revert to being strange as it began. So give glad tidings to the strangers.” Then the people asked, “Who are they (the strangers), O Messenger of Allah?” He answered, “Those who are pious and righteous when the people have become evil.” (Ahmad)

—On the authority of Ibn ‘Umar who said: The Messenger of Allah (saw) took me by the shoulder and said: “Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler/wayfarer. And count yourself among the inhabitants of the grave.”

—IbnUmar used to say: “When evening comes, do not expect (to live till) morning, and when morning comes, do not expect (to live till) evening. Take from your health (a preparation) for your illness, and from your life for your death. For certainly, you do not know, O Servant of Allah, what your name will be tomorrow.”(Bukhari)

—The Prophet (saw) said, “Islam began as something strange and it shall return to being something strange; so, tooba to the strangers.” It was asked, “Who are those strangers, O Messenger of Allah?” He (saw) replied, “Those that correct the people when they become corrupt. They are a small group of people among a large evil population. Those who oppose them are more than those who follow them.” (Compilation of Narrations from Sahih Muslim

—If only there had been among the generations before you, persons having wisdom, prohibiting (others) from Al-Fasad (disbelief, polytheism, and all kinds of crimes and sins) in the earth, except a few of those whom We saved from among them. (Hud 11:116)

—And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah’s Path. (Al-An’am 6:116)
